Index a docs site, check the answers, and add the Ask AI widget to your site. No code is needed until the last step, which is one script tag.
The dashboard has a Getting started page in the sidebar with three short steps: create a knowledge base, test answers in the Playground, and add the widget. Steps one and two tick themselves when Kelu sees them done. Tick the widget step yourself once it is on your site. Until every step is done, the Dashboard shows a banner with your progress, which you can close. Members with the User role don’t have the sidebar link.

Before you start

  • A Kelu account. Sign up at app.kelu.dev.
  • A public docs URL, such as https://docs.example.com.
1

Create a knowledge base

The first time you sign in, setup asks a few questions and then creates your first knowledge base. Give it a name and leave the type on External, so it can be published. If you click Skip for now on a question, setup ends and no knowledge base is made. Make it, and any later ones, from Knowledge Bases → New Knowledge Base.If you typed your docs URL in the Ask AI for box on the Kelu website, setup skips the questions. It creates an external knowledge base named after the site’s host name (docs.example.com becomes Example) and adds that URL as its first website source, so you can skip the next step. If your workspace already has a knowledge base, or you belong to more than one workspace, setup asks Add Example to …? instead. Pick the workspace if it asks, then click Add, or Cancel to drop the URL.
2

Add your docs

Open the knowledge base. On the Sources tab, click Add source and pick Website. Enter the Start URL and click Find pages to preview which pages will be indexed, then click through to Add source. The first crawl starts right away. See Website crawling for the options.
3

Ask a question

When the crawl finishes, open the Playground tab and ask something your docs answer. The answer streams in with numbered citations that link to the pages it used.
4

Put the widget on your site

Kelu made a widget for you, named after your knowledge base, when you created the knowledge base. Open it under Integrations → Website widget. On its Install tab, pick where your site is built and follow the steps. The code looks like this:
<script
  async
  src="https://widget.kelu.dev/kelu-widget.js"
  data-widget-id="YOUR_WIDGET_ID"
  data-client-key="kl_pk_..."
></script>
Check Sites it works on on the same tab, so the widget only loads on your site. The widget quickstart has every step, and the platform guides cover Mintlify, Docusaurus, Next.js and more.

Watch what people ask

Analytics shows conversations, users and feedback. Coverage Gaps lists the questions your content could not answer. Click Answer this on one to write the answer yourself.
Integrations are managed by workspace owners and admins. On the Free plan you can add Website, File Upload, Custom Answers, OpenAPI Spec and YouTube sources. See Billing & Plans.
